20 Veterans Day events you won’t want to miss in AZ’s 20 biggest cities

Veterans Day is afoot, and Arizona is ready to show appreciation for those who have served in the military and risked their lives fighting to protect American freedom and champion it abroad.

The annual holiday falls on Nov. 11 because in 1918, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice — or temporary ceasefire — was declared between the Allies and Germany in World War I.

Many countries commemorated the day as Armistice Day the following year, but it wasn’t until 1938 when Nov. 11 became a federal holiday in the U.S. It was after World War II and the Korean War that Armistice Day became known as Veterans Day.

Here are 20 events in Arizona’s 20 largest cities that we recommend you check out to show your appreciation this Veterans Day.
