2024 annual National Buffalo Soldiers Day celebration announced

Sierra Vista, AZ – July 12, 2024 – The Southwest Association of Buffalo Soldiers Inc. (SWABS), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is pleased to announce the 2024 Annual National Buffalo Soldiers Day Celebration. This year’s theme, ‘Service on The Frontier,’ will be honored at Veterans Park, Sierra Vista, Arizona, on Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 4 pm to 8 pm. The event is co-sponsored by the Camp Naco project and the Sierra Vista Historical Society.

This free celebration will feature a full program of inspiring speakers, great food, local vendors, and music from Desert Fever and Freddy Jay. Highlights include the Buffalo Soldier Legacy Award Presentation and a keynote by nationally recognized Buffalo Soldier historian John P. Langellier. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and enjoy this family-friendly event.

The Buffalo Soldiers were established in 1866 through the Army Reorganization Act, creating six new regiments of African American soldiers tasked with protecting settlers and vital infrastructure. In 1992, Congress designated July 28 as National Buffalo Soldiers Day to honor their contributions.

SWABS President Demetria Warren stated, ‘We are excited to share stories from Buffalo Soldier descendants. Their legacy provides strength to future generations.’
