AmVets Magazine wins state award for investigative series

A series that was published in the inaugural edition of American Veterans Magazine won a first-place award in the Arizona Media Association’s Better Newspaper Contest, held in October.

The series Scamouflage by Elias Weiss won first place in the investigative category. The piece dives into three cases of stolen valor in metro Phoenix, namely the city of Maricopa and Apache Junction.

It unravels the lies of the phony veterans and exposes who they truly are behind the camouflage. In each case, the lies had not been previously exposed.

The Arizona Media Association is a nonprofit that represents more than 350 media brands that include radio, TV, print and digital publications.
