Buckeye, Ariz. — Buckeye Police Department Sgt. Zachary Astrup will be featured on Fox Sports 910’s Roc & Manuch radio show today at 2 p.m., where he will share his experiences in law enforcement and discuss his love for sports.
With more than a decade of service with the Buckeye Police Department, Astrup brings a wealth of knowledge and a unique perspective on community service, leadership and personal passion for athletics.
Law enforcement career
Astrup began his law enforcement career after graduating from Glendale Community College Law Enforcement Training Academy in 2013 as an Exemplary Recruit. In 2017, he was promoted to sergeant, where he now supervises patrol squads and the Bike Patrol.
He also played a key role in building the department’s Rapid Deployment Unit, specializing in off-road search and recovery, civil disorder and extrication.
Astrup received many awards for his service throughout his career, including the Medal of Distinction (2016, 2021), a Life Saving Award (2023) and a Teamwork Award (2016). Since 2019, he has also served as a backup public information officer.
Military career
In addition to his role in law enforcement, Astrup has had a distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.
As a senior master sergeant, he served as operations superintendent for the 943rd Security Forces Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona. Since enlisting in 2003, Astrup has held numerous positions in both military security and law enforcement with a focus on unit training. His military career has included deployments to Kirkuk Regional Air Base, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has earned multiple commendations, including the Meritorious Service Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal with two service stars.
Passion for sports
Off-duty, Astrup’s passion for sports runs deep. A lifelong Colorado Avalanche fan, he grew up watching hockey and is also an avid mountain biker, a hobby he enjoys in his spare time.
