DAV helps military sexual trauma survivor secure earned benefits

July 8, 2024 — Washington, D.C. — The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization has successfully assisted Army veteran Lisa Szafaryn Garcia in securing service connection for PTSD related to military sexual trauma (MST). Garcia, who enlisted in 1978, faced decades of struggle after an assault in her barracks. With DAV’s advocacy, she received long-overdue recognition and benefits, inspiring other MST survivors to seek the support they deserve. DAV encourages veterans to contact them for assistance with discharge upgrades and benefits claims.
