This Veterans Day, an Arizona dispensary chain is turning its everyday discount into a symbol of remembrance and advocacy.
Mint Cannabis, which operates eight dispensaries across metro Phoenix, will double its standard Veterans discount from 22% to 44% on Tuesday, Nov. 11. The company offers the state’s largest standing discount for Veterans year-round — and the percentage isn’t arbitrary.
The 22% figure represents the 22 U.S. Veterans who die by suicide each day, a number often cited to underscore the toll of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Mint’s goal, leaders say, is to keep that statistic at the forefront of the public’s mind while offering tangible support to those who served.
“It’s time that we recognize the psychological toll that Veterans face,” said Eivan Shahara, CEO of Mint Cannabis. “Job-related stress, trauma, physical demands, and long hours have real psychological consequences. While the stresses are relentless, members of our military are supposed to be ‘tough.’ The perceived stigma surrounding mental health problems keeps many from seeking help.”
Veterans can claim the 44% discount at any of Mint’s eight Valley dispensaries — in Tempe, Mesa, Scottsdale, Phoenix, El Mirage, and Buckeye — by showing valid military identification at checkout.
With nearly half a million Veterans living in Arizona, Shahara said his team views the annual increase as both a thank-you and a call to action. The company hopes the gesture not only eases financial strain but also draws attention to the need for more open conversation and accessible mental health resources for Veterans and their families.
Mint Cannabis has been recognized nationally for its product selection and innovation, with locations that blend retail operations with community initiatives aimed at reducing stigma around mental health and cannabis use among former service members.
