Northern Arizona VA to host POW/MIA recognition ceremony

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona VA Health Care System (NAVAHCS) will honor former American Prisoners of War (POWs) and those still Missing in Action (MIA) during a POW/MIA Recognition Ceremony on Friday, September 20, at the Bob Stump Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

In addition to recognizing POWs and MIAs, NAVAHCS is proud to collaborate with the community to honor all Veterans and first responders through events like the Heroes Among Us dinner. “The Our Lady of Joy Military Veterans Ministry is proud to be partnering with the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Assembly #3280 to co-sponsor the Heroes Among Us dinner to honor Veterans and first responders and to support nonprofits that serve them,” said Mike Wold, US Navy Veteran and leader of the Our Lady of Joy Military Veterans Ministry.

Who: All are welcome to recognize and honor POW/MIA Veterans.
What: A one-hour POW/MIA ceremony followed by refreshments.
Where: Bob Stump VA Medical Center, 500 N. US HWY 89, Prescott – Main Flagpole
When: Friday, Sept. 20, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., rain or shine.

POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed on the third Friday of September to honor the brave servicemembers who were imprisoned during combat and those who remain unaccounted for. Today, approximately 83,000 Americans are still missing from World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War, Gulf Wars, and other conflicts.
