Social Security’s new electronic initiatives improve benefits access for veterans

Washington, D.C. — The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has announced new electronic initiatives by the Social Security Administration (SSA) designed to enhance and simplify access to benefits for veterans. These advancements are aimed at providing more efficient and user-friendly services for veterans and their families.

The SSA has launched a redesigned website at SSA.gov, which now offers improved navigation and easier access to various online services. Veterans can start or manage applications for benefits such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), retirement, disability, and Medicare online, reducing the need for in-person visits. Additionally, the website allows users to create a personalized “my Social Security” account. This account provides tools such as a retirement calculator, direct deposit management, and the ability to request a Benefit Verification Letter.

These electronic initiatives are part of SSA’s ongoing efforts to streamline processes and make it easier for veterans to access the benefits they have earned. The VA encourages all veterans to take advantage of these new tools and resources to manage their benefits more efficiently.
