Ready to shoot for a good cause?
Nonprofit organization Soldier’s Best Friend will host its 14th annual sporting clay event at the Ben Avery Clay Target Center in Phoenix on Saturday, March 15.
The event gives sports shooters a chance to shoot 50 clay pigeons while helping to ensure the nonprofit continues to provide service or therapeutic dogs to military veterans living with post-traumatic stress disorder or traumatic brain injury.
Most dogs are rescued from Arizona shelters before being paired with a veteran, creating a “relationship that saves two lives,” said Development Manager Emilio Driscoll, a 10-year Army veteran. The service is free for veterans.
“We just want to let everyone know we are here. Veterans go through struggles but there is an organization that says you’re not alone,” he told American Veterans Magazine. “You may be out of service, but you do still have a friend and that includes us.”
In addition to several hours of clay shooting, participants can enjoy lunch, hear soldiers’ experiences with the program and partake in a raffle drawing. Some raffle items include a two-guest Stellar Adventures ATV or Hummer tour, tickets to the Phoenix Zoo and Bearizona, gift certificates to The Keg and dog training lessons.
Registration for the event can be completed online through March 9 or in-person the day of the event. For more information, visit the organization’s website.
