The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System is introducing a new technology designed to improve the experience veterans have during medical appointments.
The system, known as Ambient Artificial Intelligence Scribe, assists health care providers by securely capturing notes during clinical visits. Instead of typing throughout the appointment, providers can focus more directly on the veteran while the system generates a draft of the clinical documentation.
According to SAVAHCS officials, the technology will first be used during Primary Care appointments and is expected to expand to other clinical visits across the health care system.
The goal is to give providers more time to engage with veterans face-to-face while maintaining the same standard of VA care.
Veterans using the system can expect more one-on-one interaction with their provider during appointments while still receiving the same high-quality care from the VA.
Participation in the Ambient AI Scribe program is voluntary. Veterans may opt out at any time, and choosing not to participate will not affect the quality of care they receive or their VA benefits.
Officials emphasized that the technology is designed with privacy protections in place to ensure veterans’ information remains secure.
Veterans interested in learning more about the technology can watch the VA’s informational video, “Understanding Ambient AI Scribe Technology at VA.”
