Washington, D.C. — July 10, 2024 — In recognition of Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is emphasizing the importance of mental health care for minority Veterans. The VA continues its commitment to breaking down barriers and addressing the unique challenges faced by minority Veterans in accessing mental health resources.
VA Secretary Robert Wilkie stated, ‘VA is dedicated to reshaping the conversation around mental health treatment and recovery, especially for our minority Veterans who may face additional stigma and obstacles.’ The VA’s campaign, “The Moment When,” aims to highlight personal stories of resilience and recovery, encouraging Veterans to seek support and share their experiences.
Throughout July, the VA encourages Veterans and their families to visit MakeTheConnection.net to explore a wide range of recovery stories and find local mental health resources. The website features over 600 stories from Veterans who have successfully navigated mental health challenges.
For Veterans in crisis or those concerned about one, the Veterans Crisis Line is available 24/7 at 800-273-8255 (press 1), text 838255, or chat online at VeteransCrisisLine.net.
